Have you changed your furnace filter lately? It's a good idea to do it monthly.
Capital Credits
One of the principals of a cooperative is that it is
non-profit. Of course, it is impossible to establish
rates whereby the revenue and expenses are equal. Since
you are one of the owners of the cooperative, part of
the capital left over after the deduction of all expenses
is yours. The portion of the capital each member receives
is determined by how much electricity has been purchased.
Each year all electric members will be allocated their
share of the cooperative’s capital for the preceding
year. Between the time capital credits are allocated
and the time they are paid to you in cash, the money
is used by your cooperative to maintain and improve
the electric system to insure adequate and dependable
electric service.
Capital credits are credited to your energy bill after
the allocation has been approved by the Board of
Directors. If you are not a member of the cooperative,
a check will be mailed to you. The earliest credits
accumulated by cooperative members are paid first and
then a percentage of each of the later years.
If you move from KPC’s service area, please keep us
informed of your current address so that future capital
credit refunds can be sent to you promptly. Unclaimed
capital credits are given as scholarships to area
students who plan to further their education.
Please also inform your Cooperative if changes are made
on your account such as divorce, death or business
dissolution.
In the case of a divorce, A “Transfer of Capital Credits
by Owner” form must be signed by both members that have
joint ownership and must specify what percentage goes to
each individual. (Capital Credit Transfer).
If a death occurs and Capital Credits are to be paid out
to the survivor(s) a request form for “Withdrawal of
Capital Credits upon Death (Probate or No Probate) must
be issued and approved by our Board of Directors in order
to be paid out. (Capital Credit Estate Form ).
If a business is dissolved, an Application for
Distribution of Capital Credits must be signed in order
to pay out the Capital Credits to the applicant of the
account. (Capital Credit Payout).
