Rural and urban residents are finding security lights offer several benefits including:
Safety- to avoid personal injury when working after dark, and damage to property when moving cars or machinery. Accidents can be eliminated by lighting up uneven walkways or items left in the yard or driveway.
Security- light deters vandalism and discourages prowlers.
Productivity- lighting extends the workday beyond sundown. It allows tasks to be completed more quickly after dark, and adds convenience in opening doors or checking around property.
Security lighting is a service Kandiyohi Power Coop has provided its member for years. The Co-op leases and maintains dusk-to-dawn area lights.
Popular locations for security lights are farms, single family homes, cabins and businesses with multiple outbuildings and are most often used to illuminate large areas around buildings or work areas. The Co-op does not install security lighting on buildings.
The cost of the program varies depending on the size of the light installed. This program includes maintenance of the light, including bulb and light replacement. There is a one time installation fee.
Lighting systems that match the right fixture to your specific needs add safety, security and productivity.
Other popular uses for outside lighting include:
Motion-sensor lights to light up entrances, doors, gates, or other locked areas.
Compact fluorescent bulbs used as decorative yard lights for walkways from home to a garage or outbuildings.
